This course brings together a group of experts, who will discuss and engage the audience to minimize any existing knowledge gap by presenting the latest guidelines and treatment options for patients with breast disease, especially breast cancer. It is daunting for health professionals to keep abreast of all the information and literature that is continuously being brought to the forefront on breast disease. The goal of the course is to improve the knowledge base of the audience and improve the care outcomes of patients.

Medical, Surgical, & Radiation Oncologists, Breast Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Radiologists, Pathologists, Obstetricians & Gynecologists, Palliative Care Physicians, Genetic Counselors, Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Nurses, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Breast Nurse Navigators, Breast Social Workers, Patient Ambassadors and Patient Advocates.



Objectives
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
 

  1. Explain the use of the 21 gene assay for the selection of treatment in early stage breast cancer
  2. Explain the use of the 70 gene assay for the selection of treatment in early stage breast cancer
  3. Explain the use of the 12 gene assay for the selection of treatment in early stage breast cancer
  4. Familiarize themselves with elements of breast cancer risk assessment
  5. Identify women who should be referred for cancer genetic testing and high risk interventions
  6. Identify management options for women at increased risk for breast cancer
  7. Interpret the advantages of population-based approaches for cancer prevention
  8. Interpret the advantages of targeted approaches for cancer prevention
  9. Review the latest data on models that predict absolute risk of breast cancer for informing more targeted approaches
  10. Identify the latest breast imaging modalities including mammogram and ultrasound
  11. Explain the current indications for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  12. Discuss screening guidelines, including patients at high risk and with dense breasts
  13. Define concepts of Integrative Medicine, Integrative Oncology, Complementary and Alternative Medicine
  14. Describe a model of integrative medicine in cancer care where we develop an evidence-informed integrative care plan
  15. Appraise integrative approaches for lifestyle/health support and symptom management

Mineola is 34 minutes by train from New York’s Penn Station and 19 minutes by train from JFK airport at Jamaica, New York.  Most eastbound and westbound branches of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) stop in Mineola. Please check the LIRR’s TrainTime mobile app for daily schedules. If arriving in Mineola on an Eastbound train, cross the footbridge to the north side of the platform. Walk one block north toward the NYU Winthrop Research and Academic Center.

PARKING
Parking is available at any of these convenient campus lots:
• Mineola Intermodal Center at 65 3rd Ave., Mineola (Payment required).
• NYU Winthrop Campus Visitors Lot (access via Emergency entrance at 2nd & 3rd Ave. Payment required).
• 120 Mineola Blvd. Ramp (Free parking on weekends above level 2 only, other levels will be fined).
NOTE: Parking will not be validated in any NYU Winthrop campus lots.
